Just 2 months to go until the 69th FEFAC Annual Public Meeting on 29 May 2025 in Rome.

We now have a confirmed programme, speaker lineup and practical information!

ASSALZOO President Silvio Ferrari and FEFAC President Pedro Cordero welcome all members and stakeholders and partners to attend the 69th FEFAC Annual Public Meeting, presenting the main theme of this edition, which is covering the “New EU vision for more competitive and sustainable livestock economy & outlook on transatlantic green feed & grain trade opportunities and challenges”.

Therefore, we are highly pleased to confirm the participation of Brigitte Misonne, Acting Director, Markets, DG AGRI, European Commission, who agreed to provide a keynote presentation on the “New Vision for EU Agriculture and Food” (online).
This will include a specific focus on the announced long-term EU livestock strategy while respecting planetary boundaries.
Massimiliano Giansanti, COPA President, agreed to share his key recommendations on how the New Vision should enable the livestock sector’s transition to more competitive and sustainable production systems, to provide more resilient and affordable food supplies.

Roxanne Feller, European Livestock Voice President (ELV), Paolo Zanetti, ASSOLATTE President – European Dairy Association (EDA), and Marcello Veronesi ASSALZOO & FEFAC Board member will join the 1st panel discussion to explore the opportunities for the value chain partners to contribute to the successful implementation of the new long term strategy of the EU livestock and aquaculture sectors.

For the 2nd panel, FEFAC will focus on current global trade escalation affecting European feed grain and livestock markets.
Ted Swinkels, COCERAL President, will provide the EU grain and feed trade perspective on challenges and opportunities in international grain and oilseeds markets. Jim Sutter, USSEC CEO, will share the global market outlook from a US soy exporter perspective.

Gustavo Idigoras, CIARA-CEC President (Argentinian Soy Exporters), Ricardo Arioli, CNA/SENAR President (Brazilian Soy Producers) and Pedro Cordero FEFAC President, will join the second panel to discuss the outlook on the transatlantic green feed trade while examining, particularly, the impact of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and EU FTAs, reflecting on current tariff escalation with US and China.
During the event, the two high-level International experts panel sessions will be moderated by Andrea Bertaglio, Environmental Journalist, and Anton van den Brink, FEFAC Deputy Secretary General.

The 69th FEFAC Public Annual Meeting will be held at the prestigious Villa Aurelia, on the crest of the Janiculum Hill, in the heart of Rome.

ASSALZOO President Silvio Ferrari: “2025 will be a year of great significance for ASSALZOO as we celebrate the 80th anniversary of our founding. This milestone will be further marked by the FEFAC Assembly, taking place in Rome during the Jubilee year. It will be a unique opportunity to strengthen dialogue and cooperation among key stakeholders in the sector at the European level. Through this event, we reaffirm our commitment to a feed industry that is increasingly sustainable, innovative, and ready to face global challenges with determination.”

FEFAC President Pedro Cordero “The European feed and livestock sector remains committed to advancing the goals set out in the FEFAC Sustainability Charter 2030. In the face of geopolitical uncertainties and pressures on free trade, maintaining a forward-thinking approach is crucial. By seizing opportunities for sustainable trade and leveraging the investments of compound feed manufacturers in cutting-edge animal nutrition solutions, the sector can strengthen both the resilience and competitiveness of EU livestock and aquaculture industries.”

The sustainability of U.S. Soy is independently verified by the U.S. Soy Sustainability Assurance Protocol (SSAP), a comprehensive scheme that ensures soy produced in the United States meets strict environmental, social, and economic sustainability standards. Developed through a multi-stakeholder process and regularly updated, the SSAP combines national conservation laws with best management practices used by U.S. soybean farmers.

In 2024, the FEFAC reaffirmed that the SSAP meets its updated 2023 Soy Sourcing Guidelines. The SSAP has been benchmarked against FEFAC’s criteria since 2015 and has met its conversion-free soy requirements since 2021. Benchmarking is overseen by the International Trade Centre. As of 2024, 99% of U.S. Soy shipments to Europe included SSAP certificates, underscoring the program’s strong compliance and transparency.

SSAP shipment certificates provide international buyers with verified assurance that U.S. Soy is sustainably produced. These certificates are transferable, allowing sustainability claims to be passed along the global supply chain and used in corporate sustainability reporting.

International companies can also use the Sustainable U.S. Soy and Fed with Sustainable U.S. Soy labels at no cost. To qualify, processed soy products must contain at least 60% SSAP-verified U.S. Soy, while whole soybean products must contain at least 90%. Animal products such as pork, poultry, or shrimp may also carry the “Fed with” label if the feed ration contains at least 60% certified U.S. Soy. These labels provide a credible and transparent way for U.S. Soy customers to showcase their commitment to sustainability.
